Waste Management’s social media accounts are intended to provide users with a place to connect and to share experiences, stories and challenges. We are committed to creating a community that encourages self-expression and wish to ensure that ideas and comments are expressed in an appropriate manner, with respect for the rights, dignity and property of others.  These guidelines outline the rules of conduct for participation on Waste Management’s social media accounts and by engaging with our social media channels you agree to follow these guidelines:

Be respectful

We believe you can make a positive contribution to our online communities, and we want to hear your voice. We welcome questions and commentary, including constructive feedback and differing opinions, but please remember to be both relevant and respectful with what you post and the comments you leave. We do not tolerate harassment, abuse, or threats to others. Specifically, we do not tolerate comments that are:

  • Abusive, harassing, stalking, threatening or attacking others
  • Offensive, obscene, vulgar or depicting violence
  • References to upsetting or distressing subjects
  • Hateful in language targeting race/ethnicity, age, colour, creed, religion, gender, sexual preference or orientation, nationality or political beliefs
  • Sexually explicit or pornographic
  • Fraudulent, deceptive, defamatory, misleading or unlawful
  • References to criminal or illegal activity
  • Violations of any intellectual property rights
  • Spamming in nature
  • Viruses or programmes that could damage the operation of other people’s computers
  • Commercial solicitations or solicitation of donations

Social networks are public

Our Facebook page is a public page where anyone can participate. We cannot be responsible for views expressed other than our own.

Protect personal information

Never publicly post comments containing identifying or confidential information such as account details or other personal information including address, telephone number, email, passwords, etc.

Stay on topic

Your comments should be related to the topic of the post. We reserve the right to delete off-topic comments, and, for instance, will remove any marketing materials, commercial content, and other types of “spam” (such as comments that are posted repeatedly), and will ban users as appropriate.

Make sure it’s yours

Only post content if you have the proper permission from its rightful owners. If it belongs to someone else, please don’t post it. Copyrighted and trademarked material and other intellectual property will be flagged for removal. Also, give credit where credit is due. When you share an interesting image or video from our page/s, please the time to tag us or include the handle responsible for the original post.

License to use your content

By posting and commenting on Waste Management’s social media pages, you grant us the right to use or reproduce your content. Additionally, any unsolicited ideas or suggestions you post on our social media pages will automatically become property of Waste Management without limitation, with no obligation for us to compensate you.

Breach of guidelines

We reserve the right to remove any comments or content that doesn’t adhere to these guidelines or with any other applicable Terms and Conditions, rules, or laws. We reserve the right to hide or delete comments made on our channels, as well as ban users who do not follow these guidelines.  We also reserve the right to send any comments to law enforcement authorities for investigation as we feel necessary or is required by law.


Waste Management reserves the right to change, remove, or deny access to the content on our pages and is not responsible for any consequences you may experience as a result.

Users will be blocked if they breach the above community guidelines three times. We have the right to block users from our social media communities and follow a three-strike process. However, we will not tolerate anyone who uses our channels to spread malicious information or threaten this organisation, its employees or others. Any users who do will be blocked without warning.

Blocked users will still be able to read content when logged out but will not be able to comment.
