Great leaders inspire great teams. As our Waste Management leaders learn and grow, they need to develop different skills and qualities.
Manager Starter Program
This one-year program for high potential employees leads to the Level 4 National Certificate in Frontline Supervising. With this nationally recognised program, you can develop your management and business capabilities, and gain skills to help you progress at Waste Management.
The Manager Activation Program
Developed in partnership with Massey University, you’ll learn about subjects like managing branch finances, leadership, customer engagement, managing projects, improving business processes and operations management.
The Mentoring Program
This 12-week intensive program is a personal growth and professional development opportunity for selected team members. Anyone on this program receives support and advice from a Waste Management Executive Management Team member.
Driving Success – Driver Activation
Waste Management operates one of New Zealand’s largest fleets. So looking after our drivers’ development and growth is fundamental to our business success. We provide great career development opportunities for drivers wanting to attain their Level 2, 4 or 5 driver qualifications, National Qualifications in Commercial Road Transport, or Transport of Waste and Recoverable Resources.
Cadet Program
For Year 13 students with NCEA Level 2 whose learning needs aren’t being met in a full-time school environment, Waste Management’s Cadet Program gives you new options to explore. We work closely with local schools to help you gain meaningful credit towards a Level 3 National Certificate. Then we support you with moving into full time employment with us, or to continue in your tertiary training.
Graduate Program
Waste Management’s Graduate Program gives you the chance to grow and have impact in your chosen career through structured learning, hands-on projects, continuous feedback and supportive colleagues.
With plenty of practical experience relating to your field of study, you can see how to apply your learning in the real world – and make lifelong friends along the way.
You’ll be supported with a comprehensive professional and personal development plan, including leadership training, mentoring, and special projects. And, as a Waste Management Graduate and permanent employee, you’ll see your career take off on an accelerated career path.
We’re looking for graduates with generalist and specialist leadership skills.
With the scale of Waste Management’s operation, you’ll gain a wealth of experience over your two years as a Graduate. You can choose a specialised function, giving you the opportunity to be considered for specialised leadership roles, or develop your leadership career as a generalist.
