Customer Service Training and Development, Christchurch
Sharon started in our Auckland Customer Call Centre and after 7 months was seconded to a Customer Service trainer role, which later became permanent. Sharon is now in the Customer Service Training and Development team at Waste Management in Christchurch.
What made you apply for your first role with Waste Management?
Initially I was attracted to the convenient working hours, office location and parking, as this was extremely hard to find in Auckland.
What was your position title when you joined Waste Management?
Customer Service Representative (CSR).
How have you found the training and support at Waste Management?
It was great! I went through a very structured induction programme and received lots of ongoing support, which I feel helped me progress into my new role.
What excites you most about being part of the Waste Management team?
The team culture at Waste Management is amazing and I have built some incredible friendships in my 3 and a half years here.
What is one inspiring thing that you have learnt about Waste Management that you didn’t know before you started?
Before I started working for Waste Management, all I knew about the company was that they collected waste in trucks and bins. It’s really exciting to be with a company that is working in such innovative ways and I find our new electric trucks really inspiring.
What is the best part of your current role?
Helping customer service staff learn and develop is the best part of my role. I enjoy supporting them as they grow and progress throughout their careers, whether that is within Customer Services, or into other parts of the business – it’s very rewarding.
How long were you in Customer Services before the opportunity to progress came along?
I had been a CSR for around 6 months before being approached about the Customer Services Trainer role, which I saw as a great opportunity for me to progress my career.
What would you say to a potential new Waste Management Customer Call Centre team member?
Get on board! The Call Centre is a great place to learn all about the business and the services we offer. There are also lots of career progression opportunities, if you work hard.
Why would you recommend working for Waste Management?
Waste Management are leading the way throughout New Zealand and it’s awesome be a part of a company that is working so hard to care for our environment and the community. I also believe that there is a lot of support for career progression within the business and that staff at Waste Management feel valued.
