Sales Coordinator, Upper North Island

Zureena started in our Customer Call Centre and is now a Sales Coordinator for small to medium enterprises at our Upper North Island Head Office.

What was your first role with Waste Management?

I was doing a call centre certificate course at Manukau Institute of Technology (MIT) and towards the end of the course the Waste Management Call Centre manager came to give a talk about Call Centre / Customer Service roles. Afterwards there was a question and answer session and she was very impressed with my answers about what was needed in a customer service role and later told my tutor that I should apply for a Call Centre role once my course had finished.

What was your position title when you joined Waste Management?

My job title when I started was Customer Service Representative.

What excites you most about being part of the Waste Management team?

I like the fact that Waste Management is a large company and there are ongoing opportunities for training, which has given me a better chance of growing within the organisation. I receive a yearly pay rise and there is a social club with many social events and a Christmas function.

What is one inspiring thing that you have learnt about Waste Management that you didn’t know before you started?

I didn’t realise how much awareness was placed on health and safety for all of our team members, which includes drivers, maintenance teams, staff at the landfill and at head office. Waste Management is also extremely focused on the environment much more than I had realised.

What is the best part of your current role?

In my current role as Sales Coordinator I need to be a team player and be able to multi-task in my busy role. It’s also really important that I am able to communicate well with our sales representatives, customers and internal team members. I am interested in learning more about the commercial side of Waste Management and really enjoy working in this part of the business.

How long were you in Customer Services before the opportunity to progress came along?
My call centre course at MIT gave me all the skills that I needed to be a great customer service person and straight after completing my course I joined Waste Management.

I had lot of knowledge from residential service, but I wanted to know more about the commercial side of the business and really enjoy this part of the business.

What would you say to a potential new Waste Management Customer Call Centre team member?

Waste Management is one of the best companies to work for and I get great support from my team members. I work hard but it pays off as I have the opportunity to progress within the business. Sometimes I am rewarded by my manager with lunch, vouchers or extra pay if I work extra hours during the busy season.

Why would you recommend working for Waste Management?

Waste Management is one of the biggest companies that takes care of all the waste generated in this country in a safe and sustainable way. I also feel that in this company you can learn a lot.
