Waste collection and services will continue as normal. However, we have physical distancing and PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) requirements to help slow the spread of COVID-19.
Waste collection services
Our waste collection services for households and businesses operate as normal at Red Light & Orange Light with our team wearing appropriate PPE. If you are putting your bin out, make sure you put it somewhere that is easy for our drivers to access. Remember to maintain a minimum of 1m distance between you and our team.
We can continue removing FlexiBins with PPE safety equipment and 1m physical distancing in place.
Skip services can operate at Red Light with 1m physical distancing and appropriate PPE.
Transfer stations are open to the public. Please scan the contact tracing QR code and maintain 1m physical distance.
Recycle shops must operate under the same requirements as a retail store with capacity limits based on 1m distancing.

In the week beginning 1 November 2021, we sent a letter to our employees seeking information on how we manage COVID-19 in the workplace and for those they interact with – our customers and clients.
Our Executive Management Team and our people strongly support vaccination as an important step to help New Zealand progress towards reducing the risk of COVID-19 in our communities and enabling all of us to live and operate in a safer, more open environment and economy.
Based on risk assessments that have been carried out, Waste Management NZ believes that it is in the best interest of our people, community and business that all of our people, our contractors and suppliers be fully vaccinated if they are completing tasks on behalf of Waste Management NZ.
From 19 December 2021, only those people who have received their first dose of a NZ Ministry of Health approved COVID-19 vaccine will be able to undertake tasks on our behalf.
From 19 January 2022, only those people who have received both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine will be able to undertake tasks on our behalf.
We acknowledge that the above time frames may not align with yours and we ask that you contact either your account manager or the branch that completes services for you to discuss temporary controls while our people work to becoming fully vaccinated.
We are also mindful that this is new territory for our country, and that the Government guidelines are adapting and changing regularly as the situation regarding COVID-19 develops, and we need to be responsive to those changes.
Our thoughts are also with you and your people as we all do what we can to keep each other safe.
