Updated 20 April 2020
Will my Waste Management General Waste and Garden Waste residential wheelie bin still be collected while we are under the alert level periods?
Yes. Waste collection is an essential service and we will be operating. However, there may be some collection delays due to COVID-19 restrictions. If your bin is not collected at the normal time, please leave it kerbside and we will get to it as soon as possible.
Should I continue to recycle?
Please continue to put waste and recycling into the correct bins on the normal days so we can collect it as quickly as possible for you.
Can I go to my local transfer station?
Yes. From Tuesday 28 April, transfer stations are open to the general public.
Additional safety requirements will be in place to meet social distancing, hygiene and contact tracing requirements.
These will be communicated at each transfer station when you arrive. Please follow the instructions from our team to keep yourself and our team safe.

Can I still order a skip online or over the phone?
Yes. From Tuesday, 28 April, we can provide skip services, with some additional safety rules:
- we must be able to deliver and collect the bin without breaching the 2m physical distancing rule
- any household waste is placed into bags before it is put in the skip
- the bin must not be overloaded – we must be able to put a cover over the bin to be able to transport the waste for disposal.
Services can also be provided to help business prepare prior to Tuesday 28 April.
You can book skip services here.

Can I have my FlexiBin collected?
Yes. FlexiBins can be purchased through our retailers and removed by Waste Management, from Tuesday 28 April with some additional safety rules.
To remove your FlexiBin, additional safety requirements must be followed to protect you and our team under Alert Level 3:
- we will only collect the bin if our team can maintain the 2m physical distancing rule
- any household waste has been placed into bags before it was put into the FlexiBin
Collections will commence when from Tuesday 28 April.
If you require a FlexiBin removal you can book it here.
Are you still signing up wheelie bin customers and delivering bins?
Yes, waste services are an essential service during COVID-19.
Why aren’t you still doing on-property collections?
During COVID-19 Alert Level 3 we need to keep our team safe. Going onto a customer’s property may place our team within close contact, which we need to avoid at this time.
I just saw one of your trucks deliver a skip bin, are you allowed to do this?
Yes. Skip services are allowed from Tuesday 28 April, with some additional safety rules.
In some places you are taking recycling straight to landfill – why are you doing this?
During COVID-19 we have had to close many of our hand sorting recycling facilities and provide only essential waste services. Sorting recycling was not seen as an essential part of waste services. This means we have no other option but to take recycling material to landfill.
