How do I find out what grade my plastic waste is?

What are plastics grade 1-2?
- Type 1: Soft drink, water and juice bottles
- Type 2: Milk bottles, juice containers, shampoo and cleaning product bottles

What are plastics grade 3-7?
- Type 3: Products such as certain types of biscuit trays and clear food wraps and packaging, blister packs and toys
- Type 4: Bread and produce bags, and other soft plastics
- Type 5: Containers for yoghurt, soft cheese, deli foods and take away meals
- Type 6: Disposable Styrofoam cups and plates, some meat trays and take away containers
- Type 7: Other plastics, or combined materials such as Tetra Pak and milk cartons, foil packaging

What should I do now with plastics 3-7?
All plastics 3-7 must now go into your red, General Waste bin.
What will happen if I continue to put 3-7 in my recycling?
Only plastic grades 1-2 will be recycled. Anything beyond this will be considered contamination and disposed of as general waste.
What is happening in other regions?
This will depending on what a given council decides to do. Already other regions have shifted to recycling plastic grades 1&2 only.
