Auckland Regional Landfill Update 12 November

Auckland-Regional-Landfill-Latest-Update

We’re very proud of our essential workers who have continued to do the important job of safely and responsibly taking care of New Zealand’s waste throughout the Delta outbreak.

A date has now been set for the Environment Court hearing of the Auckland Regional Landfill proposal. It is scheduled to commence on 20 June 2022 for a period of nine weeks, with sequential breaks, and will run over the course of five months.

As well as preparing our evidence for the hearing, we are continuing in our efforts to engage with iwi and community groups. Right now, our team is particularly focused on preparing for the significant amount of native and riparian planting that we have committed to.

One of our ongoing goals is to help people understand the realities of modern, engineered landfills, and how they are nothing like the legacy “dumps” of the past. To this end, we’ve created a simple factsheet which outlines the ARL project and answers some common questions (see below). If you have other questions, as always you can email arl@wastemanagement.co.nz or call us on 0800 927 837.

Also please take a few minutes to watch our video explaining how a modern landfill works:

Thank you for your continued interest in the ARL project. We’ll stay in contact with any news or updates as we approach the Environment Court hearing date.
