Tracy Reuben - Operations Manager at Seaview Transfer Station

In the next of the Our People series, Tracy Reuben – Operations Manager at Seaview Transfer Station, talks about her job and what working at Waste Management means to her.

How long have you worked for WM? Has your role changed?

I have worked for Waste Management since June 2014 and during this time have been in multiple roles. Initally starting as Branch Support at our recycling processing plant, then a small stint in Sales Support, I became the HSE Advisor for the Wellington region and am now Operations Manager for our kerbside collections.

Describe your job in a nutshell?

My role is to effectively lead and manage 23 staff that are responsible for the collection of kerbside recycling for three councils. We are currently in the middle of rolling out the new Hutt City Council waste contract due to start on 1 July 2021. This will see 22 new trucks, 11 of them being EV with the remainder 11 being converted by 2024, and over 100,000 bins being delivered to residents over the Hutt Valley so a lot of my time at the moment is taken up with this as well as BAU!

What are the challenges?

How quickly things can change on any given day. Operations is a never-ending challenge some days. Being organised and being able to prioritise your time is key to being successful in this role!

What is the best part of what you do?

Seeing my team succeed and do well! We work as a team all day, every day, always helping each other out with the common goal of taking pride in delivering a service to our local community - with safety always at the core of what we do. Seeing my team go home every day unharmed to their families would be the best part of my job!

What would you like people to know about Waste Management?

Waste Management is an exciting place to work. No two days are the same!  Waste Management is a value focused and innovative employer, and serious when they say there are opportunities to grow and expand your career. I feel I am a great example of that given the opportunities I have been given over the last 6 ½ years!
