Blue Bins, Bright Futures: Waste Management's Sporting Initiative in Northland

Waste Management's commitment to community welfare shines as Operations Supervisor Mark Fletcher and the Kerikeri team contribute to a meaningful cause. They are donating bright blue wheelie bins to support ReSport Northland, a venture addressing the declining participation in sports and active recreation in the region.

These bins are strategically placed in businesses, sports centres, and stadiums across Northland, where they collect new or gently-used sports gear. The gear is then meticulously cleaned and repurposed, making it accessible to individuals and community groups in need.

Joey Yovich, the founder of ReSport, underscores the importance of breaking down affordability barriers to increase sports participation in Northland. The latest statistics from the Active NZ Survey Insights 2022 paint a concerning picture, showing a decrease in the average time young people from high-deprivation areas spend being active. This decline, from 10.4-11.4 hours (2018-2021) to 9.5 hours in 2022, highlights the urgency of addressing this issue.

Waste Management takes immense pride in supporting initiatives like ReSport Northland, as they align with our values of Service, Together, and Sustainability. Kudos to Mark and the entire Kerikeri team for their outstanding community contributions.
