Finalists at NZ Workplace Health & Safety Awards

Finalists at NZ Workplace Health & Safety Awards

Congratulations to our Tauranga Recycling plant and project partner Tellen Systems’ who have been named a finalist in the New Zealand Workplace Health & Safety Awards in the safety innovation category.

Our entry is based on a system that was developed using Radio Frequency (RF) as a means for triggering a lock-out system of conveyors that feed into baling machines.

Operators who work around these high risk areas wear RF tags and if for any reason they were to end up on a moving belt and unable to get off, the system will detect the frequency and will shut the machine down.

This is the second year in a row Waste Management has been a finalist, and we are looking forward to the awards night in Auckland on 31 May which are the annual highlight for everyone involved in the prevention of work injury and ill-health. It is a fantastic chance to celebrate positive Health and Safety practices.

This year, more than 180 entries were received from organisations of all sizes and industries.
