Gisborne locals clear 1.3 tonnes of illegally dumped waste

Our Waste Management Gisborne team worked hard over the weekend to help organise a mass community beach clean-up.

Jointly organised with Gisborne District Council, Branch Manager Andrew Bryant and the team strategically placed skips along the beachfront to let the clean-up participants easily cover a large area of beach and dunes. Unfortunately, this is where a lot of household waste is illegally dumped.

To keep spirits up and the event running smoothly, Operations Manager Hana Pardoe worked closely with the council to greet participants and oversee the event.

In just three hours 1.3 tonnes of waste were collected, including large items like car bodies, tyres, bikes, prams, a vacuum cleaner, and green waste. Smaller items included plastic containers, cans, bottles, vapes, cigarettes, and polystyrene.

It was a huge effort and featured as a main story in the latest Gisborne Herald. We remain very proud of the Gisborne team who have built such a great relationship with their community.
