We are proud to announce that we have been awarded the 10-year contract to run the eastern Waikato’s kerbside collections and transfer operations, as well as implement a food waste collection.
It involves contracts with Thames Coromandel District Council, Hauraki District Council and Matamata-Piako District Council and will start in September 2023.
Each of the three east Waikato councils evaluated Waste Management’s proposals independently and each chose WM as their preferred provider, saying our team was able to demonstrate how we will invest and innovate to provide sustainable waste services that work for residents.
Waste Management will provide services that are sustainable, user-friendly and people focused. A great innovation is a bespoke LEV truck that will collect food and glass at the same time, reducing overall truck movements.
Our team will service the largest area – the Thames Coromandel District – from two bases, one in Thames and Whitianga. This will cut down on truck movements and carbon emissions and ensure the large influx of people during summer (which doubles the population!) will mean the residents are well serviced.
We take over the contracts from Smart Environmental.
